Oakwood Village Library Mosaic Tables

This project is part of I HeART Main Street, a program supporting Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) with the support they need to activate their main streets through public art and placemaking. This program engages BIAs, local artists and businesses across Ontario to create more vibrant and safe communities.

Project Type: Main Street Activation

Artist: Mehtap Mertdogan

Project Statement: Oakwood Village BIA worked with artist Mehtap Mertdogan to create two mosaics on the picnic tables outside of Oakwood's Public Library. This activation was accompanied by a community-engaged mosaic-making workshop facilitated by the artist.

About the BIA: The Oakwood Village BIA is located just above the Toronto cityscape in the former Township of York. Oakwood Avenue businesses have served the neighbourhood since the 1920s. Displaying a combination of old-world charm and urban style, Oakwood Avenue forms part of a network of city streets influenced by natural geography, ancient trail routes, and urbanization.
