Commissioned by Slate Asset Management, this eight-storey mural produced in collaboration with British artist Phlegm has transformed Toronto’s sleepy midtown neighbourhood into a cultural destination.
Project Type: Permanent Exhibit
Artist: Phlegm
About the Project: Slate invited STEPS to reimagine how Yonge and St. Clair could be transformed through contemporary street art that complemented their vision for the area’s revitalization. The striking St. Clair Mural became a local landmark and gained international recognition. Elegant and complex in shape of a human form, the mural is a metaphor for the living, breathing nature of the city and emergence of the soon-to-be revived neighbourhood. The artwork looks sharp as a figure from a distance, while drawing viewers into the finely-etched details as they get close.
The mural is generously supported by the City of Toronto’s StreetARToronto (StART) program, Slate Asset Management LP, CBRE, CIBC, Dulux Paints and Rexall.
