This project is part of I HeART Main Street, a program supporting Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) with the support they need to activate their main streets through public art and placemaking. This program engages BIAs, local artists and businesses across Ontario to create more vibrant and safe communities.
Project Type: Temporary Exhibit
Artist: Kayla Buium
Artist Statement: The length of the banner is composed of original drawings of common and native plants and mushrooms found in gardens and parks of Brockville and nearby forests and wildlife areas. You can identify each plant and mushroom by looking at the common and scientific names listed and colour-coded at the bottom of the artwork.
Identifying plants and mushrooms is just one way to connect to plants and fungi and gives us a better appreciation for our natural surroundings.
About the BIA: The Mimico by the Lake BIA was established in 1985 with an objective to introduce new businesses to our area, attracting residents and organizing events to help cultivate a lively vibe and harbour community spirit among the locals.
