This project is part of I HeART Main Street, a program supporting Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) with the support they need to activate their main streets through public art and placemaking. This program engages BIAs, local artists and businesses across Ontario to create more vibrant and safe communities.
Project Type: Temporary Exhibit
Artist: Farida Zaman
Artist Statement: Cultural diversity is an important part of Farida’s piece with colour choices that reflect that. By illustrating the cultural diversity, as well as the vast variety of local businesses, Farida set out to capture the undeniable vibrancy of the Albion Islington community.
The decals were placed along Albion Rd from Albion West Plaza to Lund Ave, and Islington ave from Sandhill Dr to Wardlaw Crescent.
About the BIA: The Albion Islington Square BIA is the one-stop shop for multicultural food, shopping, and pampering! A day at the Square consists of indulging in different ethnic restaurants (like Roti Roti or Brars) while getting pampered at one of many trusted salons (like JJ Hairstylist & Beauty Salon or Mahek Beauty). Local business owners have been around for years and the community continues to fill the Square up with so much life!
